Let’s stop the cycle of hurting each other
I remember when I was 20 years old and starting my first internship at a long-term care home. I was following around a seasoned Manager to learn from her. I was really eager, wanted to help in any way possible and do a good job. On my first day I was trying to get to know someone of the clients that lived there and wanted to build relationships with them. This one lady in particular was a doctor in her younger years and I wanted to get to know her so I approached her gently to strike up a conversation. ‘
I remember feeling so shocked when she basically told me to get lost and was rude to me. I ran to the bathroom stall and started to cry. I was really hurt because I wanted her to like me and was genuinely interested in getting to know her. The Manager saw how I felt and said “chin up kiddo” this particular resident is in a bad state of mind and took out her frustration on you. She then explained to me about her medical condition and that her dementia was progressing. She was dependent on staff to take care of her and was probably really scared. It still hurt but I had more compassion and a better understanding of her situation.
I have always been on the sensitive side. This is why when I discovered energy work in 2013 it resonated with me so much. I understood how energy works and how we can feel things intuitively without ever saying anything. Fast forward 20 years later, I have been avidly studying the mind and human behaviour in some form or another. I see how our mental programming effects how we react and behave in the world. Just like that woman from when I first started my career with an internship. People that act out and have negative emotions towards others are generally hurting inside. We all have been programmed from a young age and it affects how we see the world and how we behave. This is why it’s so important for us to look at our internal world and see where we are hurting so we don’t continue the cycle of hurting others.
We don’t have to wait until we are very old and sick to do that. Do the work now so you can age with grace and ease. Whether that means taking better care of your health and looking at all aspects, physical, emotional and mental.
